Landmine exercises are a form of weight training that can elevate your fitness level in many ways. These versatile exercises help build strength and increase muscle mass. Landmine training also improves balance and stability while correcting body misalignments.
Landmine squats are a squat variation that is far different from your typical barbell back squat. To perform a landmine squat, you need what's called a landmine attachment. This is basically a place to anchor one end of a barbell to the ground. You can find this attachment in a lot of commercial gyms.
A landmine rotation is a rotational core exercise, targetting the obliques and deep core muscles. A barbell is anchored to the floor using a landmine device (usually found at the bottom of squat racks). The exercise improves overall body strength, balance and stability, and coordination.
The landmine squat can be used in replacement for the back squat, however it's important to acknowledge their differences. While landmine squats are usually loaded anteriorly, you can load it at the posterior to closely replicate the back squat, but the back squat would demand greater stability and core engagement.
While doing squats daily probably won't hurt you (unless you're doing millions of them and/or holding heavy weights while squatting), a better goal would be to aim to do three sets of 10–20 repetitions at least three times per week. This will give your lower-body muscles a good workout, and time in between to recover.
A standard barbell typically weighs ~45 pounds or 20 kgs, although this can vary slightly depending on the manufacturer. "The bar at the gym" is made of steel, between 5-7 feet long and threaded at either end so that bumper plates can be attached.
They offer numerous benefits, including joint-friendly movements, enhanced core stability, and functional strength. You can safely incorporate landmine exercises into your workouts by following safety considerations and starting with basic exercises.
Are landmine squats worth it? Landmine squats are honestly so worth it! They're a hidden gem because they're lower back and joint-friendly AND you can really load up weight for muscle mass.
Landmine Hip Thrusts
The hip thrust is a great exercise for strength and hypertrophy of the glute muscles. The landmine hip thrust is one highly underutilized hip thrust variation. This one really works the glutes.
Target Muscles
Since many muscle groups of the body work together when performing TGU, it can called a full-body exercise. It specifically recruits deltoids, rectus abdominis, external obliques, erector spinae, gluteals, quadriceps, and hamstrings.
