If enemas are performed regularly and successfully, it is possible that external hemorrhoids will diminish or be prevented, as straining is normally eliminated. However, inserting the nozzle when an external hemorrhoid exists may be highly uncomfortable and cause bleeding.
An enema may hurt if you use fluid that's too hot or cold or if you force the tube and damage tissue. You should take extra care to be gentle when inserting if you have hemorrhoids.
People with colorectal cancer, an enlarged and distended colon that may be more prone to perforation, and people who have active inflammatory bowel disease should avoid using enemas, Pothuri says. That is, unless they are specifically prescribed it by a medical professional.
Try to obtain at least 20 to 35 grams of daily fiber intake. Soak in a warm bath (sitz bath) for 10 to 20 minutes a day. Soften stool by taking laxatives. Take nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for pain and inflammation.
Sitz baths
Generally, experts recommend people with painful hemorrhoids sit in warm water for 15 minutes, several times a day — especially after a bowel movement. A sitz bath for hemorrhoids is generally available at a local pharmacy.
Management of Hemorrhoids. It is very important to avoid straining while having a bowel movement, as this puts extra pressure on the anal area. The management of hemorrhoids typically involves dietary and lifestyle changes to ensure soft and formed stools, which help to avoid pressure in the rectal area.
Usually, once a person stops passing stool of any consistency, the solution has worked through their body, and they would have cleared out all the remaining bowel contents.
Damage to the rectum and anus: When incorrectly administered, especially with solutions made with diluted coffee, peroxide, or vinegar, an enema can damage the lining of your rectum or colon. If an enema is given too forcefully, it can injure the anus and even result in bowel perforation.
You may experience pain, especially when you sit. “Stuck” stool. If you have internal hemorrhoids, it may feel like your bowel movements (BMs) are “stuck” at your anus. It may also be hard to clean yourself after a BM, and you may notice mucus discharge.
Grade 4: Hemorrhoids that are always outside the anus and can no longer be pushed back inside. Usually, a small bit of the anal lining comes out of the anus too. This is also known as rectal prolapse.
