A key for parents to know is while this film is rated R in the USA, it was rated for all ages in France. Rated for 7 year olds in much of Europe and even our neighbors to the north rated it suitable for 14 year olds.
Amazon.co.uk: Amelie: Prime Video.
On top of all of that, Amélie received five nominations at the 2002 Oscars for Best Foreign Language Film (the category that is now Best International Feature Film), Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Best Sound, and Best Original Screenplay for Jeunet and Laurant.
Yes, you can easily watch Amélie on Netflix in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand with the help of premium VPN services like PureVPN. By masking your IP address, you can dodge the geo-restrictions and enjoy your favorite shows around the globe.
During this film we see young Vada begin to grow up. Unfortunately, an unexpected death will either drive her back into her previous loneliness, or give her the strength to tell the ones she loves that she cares about them. We award our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal to this film for ages twelve and above.
Parents need to know that while Amélie is like a fairy tale, there are some graphic moments. One character works in a porn shop, and we see him surrounded by sex toys. There are comic but explicit sexual situations. There is a reference to suicide, and a child's mother is killed in an accident.
The story is not only sweet and charming, it has some great moments of comedy as well. The movie looks colorful and bright almost constantly. Even the sad parts from Amélie's life, her youth for example, look almost strangely happy. In this world, Paris actually, Audrey Tautou is the perfect inhabitant.
Right now you can watch Amélie on Max. You are able to stream Amélie by renting or purchasing on Apple TV, Google Play Movies, and Fandango At Home.
Is Amélie a feminist? This is more challenging to answer as the character isn't out to serve women's rights or promote them. She's merely living her life as a woman in the world and perhaps that's feminist enough.
Jean-Pierre Jeunet has revealed the true story of Amélie in a short 6-minute film he has released titled “La véritable histoire d'Amélie Poulain” ("Amélie: The Real Story"), in which he drops one sizeable bombshell: Amélie is not the kind-hearted waitress we thought we once knew.
