Sweaty palms, or palmar hyperhidrosis, is a medical condition in which a person sweats excessively and unpredictably from their hands. People with palmar hyperhidrosis may sweat even when the temperature is cool or when they are at rest. Sweating helps the body stay cool. In most cases, it is perfectly natural.
A number of things can trigger the sweating, including alcohol, some medicines, hormones, spicy foods, stress, and conditions like diabetes. The good news about hyperhidrosis is that doctors have several different options for treating it.
While typically applied to the armpits, antiperspirant can be applied to the palms to help control sweating temporarily. Your doctor may prescribe an antiperspirant if over-the-counter versions don't work.
Excessive sweating may be a sign of several vitamin deficiencies, such as Vitamin D and vitamin B12.
In a study of 500 participants with hyperhidrosis, researchers found that approximately 13.8% of participants had anxiety, while 12.4% had depression, and 6.4% had attention deficit disorder (ADD).
Sweaty palms are not an uncommon condition if it happens from time to time and the sweats are not drippy. But if the sweating is excessive, it can impact your quality of life, and you need to see a specialist as soon as possible for a remedy.
But when hands feel unusually warm all the time, increased blood flow, infection, and other medical issues may be responsible. People who have warm hands should not diagnose themselves based on this symptom alone. Other symptoms and a person's medical history can help a doctor to determine whether something is wrong.
By drinking a lot of water throughout the day, you can keep clammy hands at bay. You may be thinking that drinking water is what leads to sweaty hands, but it's dehydration that causes it. Drinking water decreases one's core temperature and keeps the body cool.
Use a soft brush or a mild scrub in a circular motion. Follow up with warm compresses—a warm, damp cloth pressed gently against the skin can coax those stubborn glands open, soothing the inflamed area and encouraging a natural flow. Hydration is another key player in maintaining happy sweat glands.
Health conditions that might cause excessive sweating include: Acromegaly. Diabetic hypoglycemia. Fever of undetermined cause. Hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) also known as overactive thyroid.
